Here we all are on the trail that goes right through the middle of the island. The trees are huge and it was like walking through a tunnel.
The deer on the island are obviously pretty used to humans being around. Shannon gave us some apple pieces to feed to them. I guess some of them will come right up to you and eat the apples out of your hand. The kids were much to noisy for the deer to get that close, but they definitely got closer than the kids had ever seen. They threw the apples to them and the deer gobbled them up!
This is on the opposite side of the island from where we "parked" the boat. It was extremely windy and cold on this side. Owen refused to wear a coat even though he was freezing! The kids had fun though, throwing rock after rock into the water.
This is a view of the island from the boat. It was really beautiful.
Captain Bill gave us a tour of the engine room. This is the original 1932 engine. This was made before they made casings and stuff, so everything is exposed and has to be oiled by hand every couple of hours. This engine is one of a kind and so Captain Bill is his own mechanic and parts have to be special ordered and are VERY expensive. It is very cool though!
Here's the clan...well most of them anyway.
Mags and Maya sitting at the back of the boat. Maya was obsessed with all the bouys!
Maya checking out the waves.
Dinner at Grammy and Poppys with cousins Clara and Owen.
Here's the cousins riding the ferry out to Friday Harbor. It was chilly, but they had a great time looking out at the water.
Cousin hug!
Clara and Maggie coloring on the floor of one of the Suites we stayed in. Gordy and Lori have beautiful suites that they so graciously let us stay in. I highly recommend them if you're ever taking a trip up to the San Juans!
