Fandango

Fandango, our streets annual block party was, gee, I guess about 2 weeks ago now. We had a great time as always, even though we had morning rain, and it ended up being one of the hottest, and definitely the most humid day of the year.

We started out the day with our annual breakfast at Brian and Beckys house. This year we changed it up a bit and decided to forgo the pancakes, and do egg bakes and coffee cakes instead. It was delicious.

From there, we had a kiddie bike parade. The night before all the kids got together and decorated their bikes with crepe paper and balloons, and whatever else people pulled out of their garages to decorate with, and all the Cove kids rode their bikes or scooters down the block a couple of times. They were really excited and really cute!

From there we turned on the upgraded version of the bounce house. This year we went for the gold and got the "combo unit" which included an obstacle course and a slide.
Despite the fact that it got soaking wet in the rain, the kids bounced until they could bounce no more. And in the afternoon when it was really humid and hot, they started taking buckets and cups of water from the little pools we had set up, and made the slide into a water slide. They entertained themselves for hours!

Next the face painter showed up. All the kids got their faced painted. This year there were lots of butterflies...

And puppies...

And balloon animals!

Then the Woodbury Fire Dept. arrived with a big ladder truck.

They showed us the big ladder...

And let the kids climb in and out of the truck (note Maya's very stylish Fandango 09 t-shirt!)

Everyone tried on all the fire gear...

This is our neighbor Brian. He put the ENTIRE outfit on.

After the fire truck left, we ate food from Buffalo Wild Wings which was delish, dipped into the chocolate fountain, and the adults played a Bean Bag Toss tournament. Yours truly was the women's winner, although I came in 2nd overall. Derek was the king of the Bean Bags. As the night was winding down, we shot off a few fireworks and got the kids cleaned up and put to bed. Usually we do a bonfire in the cul de sac, but the rain returned, so we all hung out in a neighbors house and talked and snacked until midnight. It was fun, but exhausting day.
Here's a little video of the bike parade. (ok, I just watched it and it isn't really very exciting...I think I must have deleted the "good" video. oh well, you get the idea!)
